Platform Specific Resources

The following section contains resources for teaching staff. Additional resources will be shared as the district begins to adopt additional platforms in the future.

Loom (Video Recording Software)

Loom is a video recording tool that helps you get your message across through instantly shareable videos.

With Loom, you can record your camera, microphone, and desktop simultaneously. Your video is then instantly available to share via a link that you can paste into Google Classroom, ParentSquare, email, or any other communication platform.

The Loom Google Chrome extension is automatically installed on all Lakota-issued systems for both staff and students. You can install the extension on your personal device via the Chrome Web Store or download the desktop application for Windows or macOS for more advanced features.

You can share a pre-recorded Loom video by simply copying and pasting the URL into ParentSquare, Google Classroom, or any other platform you would like to share your video on. The only users who are able to view your video are those who have access to the unique URL that you have shared.

ParentSquare (District Communication System)

Teachers can click here to take the a breif course to familize themselves with the basic features of the ParentSquare platform.

ParentSquare pulls data directly from the district’s Student Information System, ProgressBook. Students and parents are automatically “opted in” to receive notifications from the school, classes they are enrolled in, and any extracurricular activities they may be a part of. That means when a student is enrolled in a class, they will appear in that respective teacher’s ParentSquare roster within 24 hours of being added in ProgressBook. The same applies for students who are unenrolled at any point during the school year.

While it is strongly recommended that parents download the ParentSquare app so that they can control their notification settings and better engage with content, it is not required for teachers and staff to be able to communicate with families. We also recommend students in grades 7-12 download the StudentSquare app to engage with content shared by teachers and staff.

If you used a personal email when completing your student’s information within FinalForms, you most likely have two separate accounts in ParentSquare. To merge the accounts together, simply send an email to letting them know that you would like to merge your parent account into your Lakota-issued account.

Going this route will require you to use your Lakota-issued email to sign into ParentSquare from here on out. Be sure to provide your personal email address when reaching out to the ParentSquare support team so they ensure that the proper account is merged.

ParentSquare has updated its platform to now prevent teachers from seeing other teachers’ posts. As always, direct messages have been and will continue to be visible to only the sender and the recipient.

Google Classroom (Learning Management System)

By default, students and teachers get email notifications for some activities, such as when someone comments on your post or a teacher returns work. Students and teachers can change their notification settings at any time. If you use Classroom on a mobile device, you need to update the settings on your device as well. Teachers are not able to update notification settings for their class as they must be modified on a per-student basis. For information on controlling notification settings for students and teachers, click here.

Parents can only access their student’s Google Classroom courses by logging in with the student’s RaiderID. However, a teacher or school administrator can invite a guardian to receive email summaries about their student’s work in class. These email summaries do not include grades, but rather information on assignments and other content in the course. For more information on guardian summaries, click here.

Teachers have the ability to view their Google Classroom classes as a student in their respective buildings. To obtain these credentials and the procedure for viewing your Google Classroom classes as a student, please contact the Technology Department at

Blocksi (Student Filtering/Device Management)

The Blocksi platform allows for the district to filter student devices both in and out of school, teachers to monitor device screens in and out of the classroom, and school administrators the ability to receive actionable analytics to detect trends, cyberbullying, and harmful behavior amongst students.

Blocksi offers teachers the ability to have complete control over their student’s devices during the time that they are in class. For a complete guide on how to utilize the various features of the Teacher Dashboard, click here.

Blocksi offers the unique ability for teachers to communicate with students through audio, video, or both depending on the preference of the teacher. This service offers more robust control than other platforms, such as Google Meet, which is more ideal for smaller individual or group settings.
